Born and raised in Eldon, Missouri, Dr. Vann attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and received an Honors Degree in Biochemistry in 1986. He received his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1990.
In August, 1990, Dr. Vann moved to Fulton and joined the practice of Richard C. White, O. D. Dr. Vann and his wife, Cindy, purchased the practice from Dr. White in 1992. In August, 1993, VisionArts Eyecare Center moved to its current location at 614 Market St. in Fulton, MO. The year 2017 marks 27 years in practice and 25 years in business for Dr. Vann and VisionArts Eyecare Center in Fulton, MO.
Dr. Vann has been involved in the Fulton community during the past several years. He is a member of the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce, Fulton Breakfast Optimists and was a past board member of the Callaway County YMCA.
Dr. Vann puts a strong focus on the prevention of eye disease, and to support that focus, he obtained his certification as a Health Practitioner by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and also as a Health Coach by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. He also coordinates with Sutherlin Optical Lab to present seminars to other eyecare professionals on topics such as the importance of doctor driven dispensing and how to grow the Transitions shares in the practice.
Dr. Vann is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Missouri Optometric Association. He has been the Past-President of the Central Missouri Optometric Society. In past years, Dr. Vann has returned to the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry where he has been sponsored by Coopervision to speak to third year Optometric students on the importance of independent optometry.

Dr. Vann enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons on their farm and on the golf course. He also enjoys collecting antique Allis Chalmers tractors.

Located north of our office, Mexico, MO, is rich in the history of the region. To view our local heritage, we recommend visiting the fascinating sites of the Audrain County Historical Society. One notable example is the American Saddlebred Horse Museum, which stands proudly as the oldest horse museum in the country. Exhibits include an interesting display of equestrian items. You’ll get to know Tom Bass, the famous black horseman, and pay tribute to Rex McDonald, the famed invincible horse who is buried on the grounds. The renovated Graceland Museum, home to Col. Grant during the early Civil War, the Audrain County School and County Church (all circa 1900) will also delight Americana history buffs. Residents of Mexico, MO, still reserve the Church for weddings and community events.

If we head west, we reach the rolling hills of Columbia, MO, a lively college town that’s home to the University of Missouri. There is a variety of amazing cultural venues in this trendy area. Catch a performance of the Columbia Civic Orchestra to enjoy lovely music. This symphony performs around the city at different facilities, including at the majestic Missouri Theatre. To appreciate visual arts, look around the non-profit art gallery of the Columbia Art League. You can tour alone or join a guided tour of the local artworks.
Area Parks & Recreation
Outdoors enthusiasts have no shortage of attractions in Mexico and Columbia, Missouri. Lakeview Park offers 61.2 acres of land in Mexico, MO, with walking and jogging trails, a fishing lake, horseshoes, colorful wildflower gardens, basketball court, playground and plenty of picnic areas. Serious hikers should lace up and walk the trails of Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, in Columbia, MO. This massive state park has a huge system of caves, intriguing rock bridge and several sinkholes to explore. If you’re in the mood for a planned landscape experience, check out Shelter Gardens. This award-winning garden is behind the corporate headquarters of Shelter Insurance. Not only is it a magnificent site for taking pictures, it also has a unique sensory garden made for visually impaired visitors.

In addition to traditionally roasted brews, Kaldi’s also serves a contemporary restaurant menu of tasty food.
