Our way to help
Dr. Vann and our staff have been providing care for many years to area nursing home residents. Many of these residents suffer from low vision eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy. These eye conditions make it impossible to see to read, write, or just view pictures of loved ones. It has always been difficult to see these residents unable to continue enjoying reading and other hobbies because they are suffering from these conditions. Because of VisionArts Eyecare staff’s desire to help bring some enjoyment into the lives of these residents, Second Sight Friends was created.
In 2005, we established Second Sight Friends in conjunction with the Callaway Betterment Foundation as a not-for-profit fundraising endeavor with the sole purpose of providing low vision equipment for area Callaway County residential care facilities. Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) devices and other low vision equipment help the afflicted person regain some of their lost independence where before they would simply give up. Since 2005, because of the funds we have raised, we have been able to provide several CCTVs, reading lamps, low vision magnifiers, and other items as our way to help these residents.
To help raise money for this worthwhile cause, Second Sight Friends is holding its 6th Annual Fundraiser on Friday, May 13th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm, at 614 Market St. in the parking lot of VisionArts Eyecare Center. The fundraiser will include a BBQ, Bake Sale, Silent Auction, Raffle, and more. All proceeds will be used to purchase low vision equipment and other items to help brighten the lives of our area nursing home residents.
